Wood Packing
Restrictions
A number of countries have enacted regulations under the ISPM15
(International Phytosanitary Measure) guidelines to control the import of wood
packing. These restrictions on wooden packing materials help prevent the spread
of pests like the pinewood nematode (Bursaphelenchus xylophilis), and the Asian
longhorned beetle (Anoplophora glabripennis). This seal of compliance is
colloquially known as the 'bug stamp.'
The restrictions on wood packing will vary from country to country, and plans
for implementing ISPM15 are continually changing, and may do so without notice.
Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the exporter to determine and comply
with the importing country requirements at the time of export.
